6 Degrees of Sesame: Tribute to Mr. Hooper
Molly of Sesame Street fansite 6DegreesofSesame sings "The Song Is Ended (But The Memory Lingers On)" composed by Irving Berlin, with lyrics written by Beda Loehner. Mr. Hooper died in 1983, two years before Molly was born. I was six at the time Sesame Street aired the Emmy nominated episode where the Adult cast of the show explain to Big Bird that Mr. Hooper is dead and isn't coming back. Needless to say, it made a huge impact on me. I thought this song would make a great companion to still frames from the episode as we see the weight of a very heavy subject dropped on Big Bird's 6-year-old mind. He learns that even though Mr. Hooper's is gone, the memories we have of him don't have to go away.
